Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal Home Exhibition Went to this event with a friend who was in the midst of building a new extension and kitchen. Good to see the latest kitchen equipment, lighting and other essentials. But we also had fun and tried out a wobbly board, samples of chocolate and fizz in the food sections. Took in a couple of talks, Alan Titchmarsh was particularly good, fab Q&A session. Wandered around the market upstairs where we found a unique child's clothes producer and I still can't believe it but I bought a modern loo brush and it works so much better than a traditional one!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than last year Went on opening day, long queues of traffic to get to the venue; we almost gave up and went home. Very glad we didn't! Lots of interesting stands and displays. Food hall was packed with both stands selling food to eat there and then, food to take home and food related gadgets. Lots of novel Christmasy stuff in the Christmas section as expected. Home and household department covered all aspects. Fashion and beauty ranged from makeup to clothing, bot women's and men's for a change! This year, the show included the Cake and Bake Show as a separate section, so even more "foodie" stands and a fantastic array of decorated cakes. Many stages had star performers giving demos from how to make a Christmas trimming to how to cook virtually anything. Overall, entertaining, informative and a good day out. Glad we went!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ideal Homes Xmas Show - Disappointing I went to this show with a friend expecting to find a Winter Wonderland with lots of interesting products and Christmas goodies under one roof. I expected Christmas decorations, lights and gifts. We got a similar experience to the Summer Ideal Homes minus the outdoor snow machine, and tinsel wrapped around hose pipes and knife sets. All very disappointing - especially at a busy time of year - save the day out for the Manchester Markets....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Too much to see in one day I went specifically to research ideas for a new kitchen I am planning, but did not find as many stands as I expected. Many of the ideas were far too modern and way out for normal practical use, although all the staff were polite and tried to give useful information. All the set-ups looked as though they were from a magazine and you wouldn't dare to cook in them for fear of messing up the image! The 3 houses were similarly impractical with very little consideration given to storage space, which is most important. Interesting, but not to be copied. I enjoyed the talks by the Thinking Drinkers, which were amusing and informative. The stands demonstrating kitchen gadgets were interesting, with some useful items available at reasonable prices. The food stalls were tempting, but I managed to resist! I didn't feel that I found as much useful inspiration as previously, but I haven't visited the show for a few years, and there seemed to be less of a buzz about it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It was OK We went to the Christmas Ideal Home Show at Event City Manchester. The first year we applied for free tickets and the second year we won tickets in a prize draw. Both shows were enjoyable with many thing on show but I feel that to pay for tickets when everything there is trying to make you spend more money is not acceptable.
