Rated 4 out of 5 by from Spot on nostalgia.. Went to the show wuth a mate. Few rowdy people couldn't handle their drink....poor decisions from the MEN staff left the antagonist stay whilst the protagonists had to leave!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Madness - always a great gig! I've seen Madness loads of times. Never get board of seeing them live and never will! They always have a great blend of household classics, less well known oldies and newer songs. But what ever they decide to put in their set it always works! Looking foward to the Prenton Park gig in May!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Madness at Manchester Arena The Madness pre-Christmas tour is becoming a tradition. The Nutty Boys know how to throw a party and there is a wide range of people who have come for a knees up, from ageing mods proudly wearing their fez, to students and even children who have grown up listening to their parents and frighteningly in some cases grandparents record collection. You know what to expect from Madness, they have a well stocked arsenal of big guns to roll out from their back catalogue, and they know how to use them. Surprisingly, they include as many as seven songs from the new album 'Can't Touch Us Now' in the show. However, not at the expense of any of the hits, they are carefully sprinkled throughout a two hour set. You should overlook a new Madness album at your peril. Only released every four or five years the songs are well crafted. Madness write songs as they always have; as small interchangeable mini teams ensuring lots of different ideas. The singles 'Mr Apples' and 'Herbert' already feel like they would not be out of place on a Madness greatest hits playlist. There is a tribute to Prince Buster another giant of music who passed away in 2016. He influenced the band to discover ska, gave them their name in the title of his song that they covered and inspired them to write the 2 Tone anthem 'The Prince'. The montage of old photos & images of classic 45 singles is fittingly displayed on the big screen. Hopefully it will prompt some of the younger members of the audience to download an old school Jamaican ska compilation. It would be nice to think Madness are still introducing people to the treasures hidden away on Blue Beat and Trojan Records archives; with way they did for me when I was a schoolboy in the early 80's. And here lies a demonstration of Madnesses enduring and universal appeal. They were my favourite band when I was 10 years old. There isn't much else culturally that has stayed with me (apart from maybe football allegiances) as I've matured, but Madness are the exception that proves the rule. All the big hits are here that made Madness the ultimate singles band of the 1980's. Including 'Grey Day' their most unappreciated masterpiece. If The Specials had written this song it would have received more critical plaudits for it's insightful social commentary on a wonderfully dark musical landscape. Madness know how to throw a party - it's hit after hit. The climax is the now customary stage invasion (from family, friends and the Lightening Seeds, today's support band - rather than from the audience as it was back in their early days) for the brilliant 'Night Boat To Cairo' It's a party, it's excellent, it's Madness.
