Rated 5 out of 5 by Suzanne29 from Brilliant night! I have been a fan of Ian Dury and the Blockheads like - forever! I know Ian is much missed but he has a phenominal backing band. I have been looking forward to this event for a while. What I didnt expect to be blown away by this band! My boyfriend wanted to go as Norman Watt-Roy is his bass playing hero. All the musicians were fantastic had all personalities of their own. I stood at front and sang along to the songs and they did not disappoint me at all. I am still buzzing from this gig 2 days later! I would recommend anybody to see this band well worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by David Nieuwenhoff from Absolutely brilliant! First time at Under the Bridge venue and what a band to kick off our experience. The blockheads were as tight as a drum! Absolutely blew the roof off the gaff. I Might be biased as I've been a massive fan all my life but, there ain't many that play a live set as good as these gents. Loved the numbers off the same horse different jockey album, Derek's lyrics are on the button. The classic tracks gave me goose bumps the size of footballs, not that they seem to know what to do with one of those down at Stamford Bridge at the minute! Oi Oi Gorgeous George the support band opened the evening with a great set that's got me hook line & sinker. I'll be looking out for more of their material. I hope the Blockheads come back to this venue soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Peter MA from Blockheads in an intimate local club setting Having seen the Blockheads advertised in our local free Bedford newspaper, this was an event not to be missed. Especially as they were playing in the best local music establishment Esquires, and at a very reasonable ticket price. The storming Pearl Handled Revolver support band kicked off the evening with some great riffs, all be it a bit moody, but done with excellent musicianship. Then the Blockheads took to the stage and were given a warm welcome by the large crowd. There set started with a new number that they had only just been recording that day in a nearby studio. That explained why and how they were able arrange to do this small gig. The intimate venue gave the band a chance to be quite relaxed and consequently the audience reaction and involvement made for a warm and appreciative atmosphere. A good night was had by all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Nematoad from Great band but terrible singer and poor mix. As usual the band is great. Unfortunately the singer "Derek the draw" is appalling (terrible timing) and he seems to have been promoted to frontman which brings down the whole band. They were infinitely better without him (or, to be generous, when he only did a max two numbers). Also, the mix at "Under the Bridge" was terrible - could hardly hear the sax. Shame, as I've seen other bands there where the mix has been great (ie The Magic Band).

Rated 5 out of 5 by Supermart from Blockheads Blockbuster Slightly apprehensive: what would they really be like without Ian Dury? The answer was absolutely fantastic! Derek Hussey on vocals was great in the style of Ian but did not try and impersonate him. The Blockheads played note perfect and created great atmosphere. There was a blend of new material with the familiar as they worked themselves up to the final crescendo! Would see them again at any opportunity

Rated 4 out of 5 by Morrisliz from Blockheads at 1865 Good sized venue, clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Great gig, Blockheads stand the test of time! Clever Trevor was a highlight, sax player was magnificent. Took me back to gigs in the 70s with the great man Ian Dury...brilliant lyricist and showman

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tedchaz from Worth the long journey The Blockheads gave their all, playing with passion and clearly also with pleasure. I consider myself fortunate to have been one of the lucky few in the audience. Local support band, Pearl Handled Revolver were great, too.
