VENEZUELA VIVA Monday 10 October 2011 7.30pm Flamenco, an art that comes from the Romani people in Spain, draws on the dances and sounds of South Asia, the Middle East, Egypt and Andalusia. In the wake of Columbus, the chroniclers register its presence from Mexico to Chile. In Venezuela, on the north coast of South America, this legacy of exhilarating song and dance was transformed by the indigenous peoples, by Africans who had been brought to work there, and by other artists who encountered it over the centuries. A company of twenty five dancers and ten top musicians on stage with them, featuring as first dancer Daniela Tugues and star harpist Carlos Orozco, celebrates the country's rich melding of cultures in the beauty of flamenco, belly dancing, African percussion, joropo from Venezuela and Colombia, Caribbean calypso and modern salsa. ú250 VIP Tickets: Top price seat with interval reception and post-show party in the presence of the artists.
