More information about Dutch Uncles + Outfit tickets
Marple's Dutch Uncles have spent the past 5 years earning increasing renown for their atypical time signatures, pop riffs and the magnificent dance moves of singer Duncan Wallis. After releasing an LP of early material through a German label in 2009, the band signed to Memphis Industries for their 'proper' debut Cadenza two years later. Lauded by BBC Music (8/10) and Drowned in Sound (8/10) among others, the band continued their trip into the melodic and weird with Out of Touch in the Wild earlier this year. Building further on their reference points, NME noted that the record "sees them evolve into the Field Music you can dance to--or the Talk Talk you can smile to", awarding an 8/10 alongside acclaim from Pitchfork (7.3/10), The Guardian (4/5) Q (8/10) and The Fly (4/5)
Many bands from Liverpool can struggle to deal with the weight of the city's musical heritage, just as many artists in the modern day struggle to justify early hype on blogs - Outfit have managed to dodge both those pitfalls by simply ignoring them. Coming the the attention of the music industry with a couple of demos as far back as 2011, it took until earlier this year for the band to finally release an LP - and it was certainly worth the wait. Released through ultra-influential London label Double Denim, Performance uses a whole host of reference points, from obscure world music through to Orange Juice and Portishead, The Guardian called it "a hedonistic but haunting debut", giving 4 stars, with Clash Music going one further by naming it one of the year's great British albums.
