At a time when the live entertainment industry is saturated with acts that are formulaic and predictable, internationally acclaimed poet and spoken word artist Hollie McNish is a breath of fresh air. Reciting words of love, politics, race, breasts and all that comes in between, Hollie’s poems captivate and move audiences to feel something that is sorely lacking in the industry today.
Coming 1st in the UK Slam Poetry Finals and 3rd in the World Poetry Slam Finals, Hollie broke into the mainstream via the Internet – two of her videos ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Embarrassed’ have gone viral on YouTube, reaching over one million views in just over a week. She has received high praise both online and in print, garnering accolades including ‘Internet Sensation’ (Best Daily) and ‘Chick of the Week’ (MTV).
Hollie has released two critically acclaimed poetry albums ‘Touch’ and ‘Push Kick’, together with her published written collection ‘Paper’. She is the first poet to record at Abbey Road Studios, collaborating with the Dutch Metropole Orchestra for her upcoming EP.
Hollie has performed everywhere from Glastonbury festival, the Royal Albert Hall and Channel 4’s Random Acts to performances in Australia, France and Canada, reaching people from all walks of life – young and old, female and male. Evidence of her diverse fanbase is reflected by ‘Embarrassed’, which was tweeted by fans including Pink, Scroobius Pip and an Australian priest.
Hollie will be taking to the road in October for a UK wide tour, performing in cities including Glasgow, Leeds and finishing up with her biggest show yet at London’s Islington Assembly Hall.
In the words of poet Benjamin Zephaniah “I can’t take my ears off her.”
