Did the teenage Joanne Shaw Taylor, a disaffected Black Country schoolgirl back in the 1990s, ever anticipate she’d become a blues star across the globe? We suspect not! But, after rifling through her father’s Albert Collins and Jimi Hendrix records, she picked up her first electric guitar at the age of thirteen and only a year later was defying her teachers to play live at the Marquee and Ronnie Scott’s.

Leaving school at sixteen, her demo found its way into the hands of Eurythmics star Dave Stewart, who said it ‘made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end’, and immediately drafted her into his band for a European tour! Then in 2009, still aged only 23, Joanne saw her debut album White Sugar gain worldwide acclaim. Classic Rock magazine crowned it their Blues Album of the Month, and it eventually reached the Top 10 of the US Billboard Blues Chart!

Since then, she has become – in the words of Blues Matters – ‘the new face of the blues’. 2010 album Diamonds in the Dirt was another Billboard Top 10 hit, and earned her the Best Female Vocalist award at the 2010 and 2011 British Blues Awards. And 2012 saw her gracing the lawns at Buckingham Palace… wowing 12,000 gig-goers (and 17 million viewers on BBC1) as she played an angel-winged solo during Annie Lennox’s set at the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Concert.

In May 2014, Joanne reunited with original producer Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana), and recorded her new studio album in Memphis. The Dirty Truth mixes gritty rock riffs with classic blues influences, and is released in the UK on September 22nd. Come to ARC for an incendiary evening with a woman set to be a fixture on the international blues scene for many decades to come.

And special guest star on the night is British guitar legend Bernie Marsden – formerly of UFO and Whitesnake… and co-writer of the global rock hit Here I Go Again!
