Born and bred in Hackney, Klashnekoff is one of the most recognizable artists on the UK hip hop scene. Using lyricism as a way of expressing himself and problems he’s gone through, his raps reflect the society he’s had to grow up in, making him an identifiable figure for many young people in the UK today.
His debut single ‘Dago Mentality’ led to Klashnekoff’s first album ‘The Sagas of Klashnekoff’ in 2004, from which the infamous club banger ‘Murda’ enjoyed heavy rotation. Songs such as ‘Zero’, ‘All I got’ and ‘Blackrose’ established Klash as lyrically diverse, mixing emotional tunes with thoughtful reflections on important issues such as urban struggles and political commentary.
In 2005 he brought out the popular mix tape ‘Focus Mode’, which has sold over 20,000 copies, and as founding member of the crew Terra Firma, he shortly followed this up with ‘The Foundation’, showcasing his ability to spot and draw out talent in others. A collaboration with Joe Buhdha in 2007 resulted in the hotly anticipated album ‘Lionheart: Tussle With the Beast’. With rave reviews in NME, Mix Magazine and The Guardian, the release once again exemplified his revolutionary rhetoric, the themes ranging from introspection in ‘Rest of Our Lives’ to reality driven discourses such as ‘Bit by Bit’ and ‘The Revolution’.
Klash has featured alongside the likes of Kano and Shaznay, he hooked up with renowned DJ Jus’ Blaze for Playstation, and Rio Ferdinand, Pete Doherty and the Arctic Monkeys are all fans. In 2004 he won a UMA Award, and in 2007 DJ Premier put him forward for a BET Award nomination. Klash has supported a range of internationally famous artists at shows, including DMX, Mobb Deep, Joe Budden, Ghostface Killa and Rae Kwon.
