Leftfield - Live From Times Square
Times Square, Newcastle.
This event is for over 18s only - No refunds will be issued for under 18s.
One of the finest British dance acts of the 90’s are heading to Live from Times Square in Newcastle Upon Tyne this summer.
Reforming in 2010 with founding member, Neil Barnes, at the helm, Leftfield will be performing their 1995 debut album Leftism in full on 28th July, a weekend which also sees Jake Bugg (27th) and James (29th) take to Newcastle’s Time Square.
Celebrating the 22nd anniversary of their revolutionary debut, Leftism, which upon it’s release changed the face of dance music forever, being one of the first of it’s kind to bring the Club experience into the living room.
Completely unhindered by the confines of genre, Leftfield’s intrigue came from an astounding ability to span genres from tribal, trance, dub, house and ambient styles. Leftism stands as a beacon of this eclecticism, with guest spots from artists far removed from the dance music world such as Sex Pistols’ John Lydon and The Curves’ Toni Halliday.
Upon it’s release in 1995, Leftism was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and was described by Q magazine as “the first truly complete album experience to be created by house musicians and the first quintessentially British one".
Neil Barnes of Leftfield has said the anniversary tour, in which Leftism will be played in full for the first time, is something of a farewell for the album. “It just seems like a good time to say "bon voyage" to Leftism. I'm not really going to be playing these songs much more.”
In May 2017, Leftfield released Leftism 22 in celebration of the anniversary of the seminal album. This re-release features a remastered album as well a bonus disc of remixes by current artists, including Adrian Sherwood.
