More information about Murray Lachlan Young tickets
Celebrated for his satirical commentaries on the bizarreness of contemporary life, playwright, actor and stand up poet Murray Lachlan Young presents a performance that includes a taste of his new show, The Alien Balladeer. A beguiling and unique mix of punchy wit, brooding subtext & occasional attacks of original erotic folk song.
The Alien Balladeer tour takes its inspiration from Murray’s 2013 BBC Radio 4 series of the same name. A five-part exploration of some of the roads less travelled in the country’s cultural life, this pioneering radio series was a perfect showcase for Murray’s insight and empathetic humour.
A man whose performance clips have notched up over 200,000 hits on YouTube, Murray is resident poet for Sony Gold winning BBC Radio 4 Saturday Live, BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2Arts Show and BBC Test Match Special. 2013 also saw Murray’s first stage play, The Incomers, tour nationally as well as residencies at The Union Club, Soho and The Arts Club in Dover St. There was also an appearance on BBC Newsnight, commissioned works for Vauxhall Motors and Magners Cider, and appearances at several festivals including Glastonbury and Latitude.
Murray comes to Exeter to celebrate the start of the workshop process on his new play Glamping for Windswept Productions. The initial workshop is taking place in Exeter, supported by The Bike Shed Theatre and Exeter Phoenix. To find out more visit www.glampingplay.co.uk.

‘Simply brilliant – hysterically funny and strangely moving’
‘A rock n roll poet’
Murray will be accompanied by Bess Cavendish, who brings stunning vocal talent and rhythmic guitar style together to create her own hypnotic twist on a new folk/soul fusion that is drawing serious admirers wherever she plays. As well as opening the show with her own set, including tracks from her new EP, Bess will be joining Murray to play and sing some of their writing collaborations from the BBC Radio 4 series The Alien Balladeer.
‘Bess just gets better and better’
