Pete Canter's Sky Ensemble
Kingskerswell Parish Church, Newton Abbot.
Blending strong melodies and Latin grooves with distinct folk and classical influences, fine saxophonist and creative composer Pete Canter presents his "dreamy and joyful" original music for saxophone, flute, strings and rhythm section. After captivating listeners at Teignmouth Jazz Festival and the Exeter Vibraphonic Festival and recording their superb new album "Strange Bird" the Sky Ensemble and has now expanded from a quintet to a septet with the addition of flute and violin. The ensemble brings to life Pete's well-crafted arrangements with exciting improvisation, soaring backing lines "Canter has written a series of memorable melodic themes but the playing of this excellent quintet ensures that the music goes beyond mere prettiness. There’s plenty going on within Canter’s compositions and both the ensemble playing and the soloing are bright and imaginative throughout…… I found myself enjoying this album more and more the longer I listened to it, which is always the best way." Iann Mann 4-star review of Strange Bird at the jazzmann
