20-22 Mount Pleasant, Bilston, Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton, WV14 7LJ
Approx. capacity: 700
The Robin 2 in Bilston is an excellent live music venue with a capacity of 700, and draws appreciative crowds to see some unexpected big names, local bands and tribute acts. At the front of the club, Noddy's Bar - named after the Slade frontman - is an excellent place to meet for a drink before the gig. The Robin provides a refreshing alternative for those who like to listen to good live music at a reasonable price. The Robin 2 is unique in the fact that it is also a hotel. The Robin 2 hotel has been inundated with bookings since it's opening in May 2008. The 500,000 pounds hotel is aimed at giving concert-goers the chance to enjoy a drink and have a bed nearby for convenience. The old building next to the Mount Pleasant music venue was gutted and transformed into the new attraction as part of a 12 week renovation project. The hotel was built during celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the music venue. Each of the eight sound-proofed rooms are fitted out with en-suite bathroom, tea and coffee machines and digital televisions.

"This music still glows as brightly as that first hearing...Shakatak aren't just a band, they were the soundtrack to our lives" RONNIE SCOTT'S House Magazine (UK)
"A wild diversity seldom found anymore... tons of rhythmic and stylistic variety...slamming" JAZZIZ Magazine (USA)
Shakatak have enjoyed a level of success and career longevity rarely paralleled in contemporary music but then Shakatak is a particularly unusual group. Because of the nature of their music their fan base is one that is far reaching while always retaining an "underground" element. This paradox sees the band, who are known primarily as serious jazz/funk musicians, enjoying both high "cult" status and instant recognition as a household name due to their numerous hit recordings.
Recent festival performances include headlining at the Bratislava Jazz Day in October '10 which was filmed for Slovakia NTV, the Kutchan Jazz Festival in Japan, the HuaHin Jazz Festival in Thailand and the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Previously the band played two headlining nights at Jakjazz, the Jakarta International Jazz Festival plus an appearance at the Bangkok International Jazz Festival. Shakatak have also played at the UK's Wigan International Jazz Festival and the Midsummer Music @ Spencers Jazz Festival.
In the past 18 months the band have also performed concert dates in the UK, Azerbaijan, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Slovakia plus club dates at the prestigious Billboard, Blue Note & Cotton Clubs in Japan and future appearances include the Penang & Bangkok Jazz Festivals and two concert dates in Almaty, Kazakhstan in December 2011.
Throughout their 31 year career Shakatak have released over 50 CDs plus 3 DVDs, and their latest recording "Across The World" was released in April 2011 on JVC Records. There was also a "Greatest Hits Live" CD/DVD combo released in 2010. Most of the band's extensive back catalogue is now available world-wide on iTunes.
For live performances the band consists of the four original members Bill Sharpe (keys), Jill Saward (lead voc, perc&flt), Roger Odell (drs) & George Anderson (bsgtr), augmented with a guitarist and a backing vocalist/saxophonist, producing a musically dynamic and entertaining show from the 6 piece line-up.
