By August Strindberg
Directed by Stephen Unwin
Power, lust and class convention dominate August Strindberg's great play, set in Sweden.
Miss Julie aches with the weight of restraint and longs to escape the ties imposed by her status and class. She embarks upon a turbulent affair with a senior servant, Jean, and finds herself embroiled in a power struggle fuelled by guilt and desire.
In Miss Julie, August Strindberg explores his view upon dependency between men and women in the nineteenth century and their simultaneous desire to destroy and possess one and another.
Miss Julie is directed by Artistic Director Stephen Unwin. Earlier this year, Stephen directed the Rose production of The Winslow Boy, which is currently touring after receiving great critical acclaim. In 2008, Stephen directed the theatre's first family production A Christmas Carol as well as Born in the Gardens for the Theatre Royal, Bath.
