Rated 4 out of 5 by neuk01642 from AAL - A lesson in the technical art of exceeding expectation. So been waiting for this for a while. Bought the ticket on day of release as I absolutely wanted to cement my place at AAL's only UK show. The venue was intimate enough to have have a really electric atmosphere the pit, heaving as you'd hope at a gig like this (I'm past the point where my ageing frame can withstand the demands so I staked my claim to a spot centre stage just off the back of the madness). Nick Johnstone, a great addition to the bill. Exceptional guitarist and got the crowd warmed up nicely with some stellar playing and some amazing tone. The other support, not at all familiar with and really didn't grab me, however I was in the minority and the vast majority of the crowd... frankly went off! Then to the main event. Percussive, precise, brutal, melodic, harmonic. An amazing juxtaposition of contradictions the AAL sound. So unbelievably locked in together and yet still full of the raw aggression you really want. Playing a good selection from their new album plus all the classics from their back catalogue they were everything I'd hoped for and so so much more. It's only my second gig back in the saddle after 8 years bringing two small kids up with my wife, and all I can say is gig number 3 is going to have to go some to top this. Quality evening, quality band.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Amyontherocks from Pleasantly surprised Having not heard much of the band prior to the show (went with a friend who is a fan) I have to say I wasn't sure what to expect. They did not disappoint!!! Firstly the support acts were a solid choice, complimentary to the band's style without being carbon copies. So, Animals as Leaders...(I am not a music boffin, so forgive the ignorance) A group of unbelievably talented musicians who's skill will leave you bopping your head one second and baffled in the next. Occasionally it's like each member is playing an entirely different song (but in the most wonderful way) and just like any expert, once they get going they could easily leave you confused. Then, just as easily, the tangents form seamlessly back into a rhythm and you understand exactly what they were talking about in the first place. In terms of style, I think anyone who can understand talent and skill will instantly love this band, particularly if you've got a bit of a soft spot for borderline psychedelic metal with hints of classical guitar, jazz drums and funk. You have to see them to understand it. Just don't expect to sing along, this band have no vocals and they certainly don't need them. Each song can hold your attention without the need for a catchy hook.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lexz from Intervals were fantastic What a treat this gig turned out to be. Small venue with incredibly good bands. Intervals, the support band was tremendous. Tunes were melodic through to rock'n and wow are they something to see. The level of musicianship was as high as it gets. The band was actually pretty cool too, friendly and funny, banter and all round nice guys. Seriously, such a surprise to see a band with such a great attitude, a real treat. Highly recommend to anyone and everyone out there. They are what a band should be. After that, Animals as Leaders were OK, I suppose. They were way too loud for a venue of that size and it really stopped me from enjoying their set. I have good quality ear plugs and they were largely rendered useless. I left have way through their set as a result. The last gig I went too that I left because it was painful was about 5 years ago. I go to loads of gigs and I rarely complain about volume so, seriously, way too loud. Great crowd in Leeds too. No trouble and everyone looked to be having a great time. It was my first time too The Keys nightclub. Great Venue! Overall, even with my volume winging, I have to give this gig full marks. One of the best gigs I have been too in years.
