Rated 5 out of 5 by KJ1771 from Beth Orton + Brodka Venue is fantastic, great acoustics & instant atmosphere. Beth was awesome, true professional with gorgeous vocals, lyrics & good chat in between. The support was the surprise of the night, I am now in love with Brodka too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by neilw84 from Joyous exuberance at Hebden Bridge, ruinous over-amplification here I saw Beth perform at Hebden Bridge in July: it was a wonderful performance in a small, intimate venue, and she was delightful, singing with so much evident enjoyment and possessing the most engaging smile. And what a voice! So I was so much looking forward to this gig and especially hearing her wonderful voice soar in the cathedral’s magnificent acoustic - as I have experienced with Laura Marling and Bat For Lashes (twice). However, the over-amplification of the instruments was ruinous and for much of the time she was barely audible. Even when she sang her sixth song of the evening Pass in Time with no other instruments other than her own acoustic guitar the sound was too loud. Between songs she engaged with the audience with her usual charm and humour … and could be heard so clearly! Such a shame this didn’t apply to her songs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GazR from As good as ever The new songs, with more electronics and keyboards, fitted in seamlessly with old classics. More evolution than revolution, the new songs are trademark Beth Orton. The only thing which detracted from a five star show was the scaffolding within the cathedral. No doubt a necessary evil and beyond the control of the concert organisers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by TheDeborah from OK. But sound on album much more flattering to Beg's voice. Album much better than live performance. Gorgeous voice needs more prominence in mix.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Seanysshow from Amazing gig, Beth at her finest. Showsec at their worst. Beth Orton was amazing. The venue is ok, not as good as similar venues such as O2 where you can get closer to the action. The lights were, at first, set right in the eyes of the audience, but after I got the security staff to talk to lighting, that was sorted nicely. The sound was ok, but uncomfortably loud and tinny in places. I also found myself staring at the back of a photographers head as there were 4 at the same time all fighting for shots right in front of me on the other side of the barrier. But the atmosphere was amazing. It was a shame that Beth did not come out to sign albums as in previous gigs, and it would be good to have the merch bar actually in the venue room where it is more obvious. I missed it until I was on my way out. Therefore I missed the merch from the support, a great Polish band. On my way out, I asked a group of showsec security guards at the door where the toilet was, it had been a long gig. They told me that they were downstairs but I could not go as they had just been swept, and the building was closing. This was about 10 minutes after the gig had ended. They were very keen to leave the building and get home. There were 3 men and one woman and one of the men suggested that I find a bush outside instead. Not professional at all, and very unreasonable compared with many other venues, even much smaller ones. Complaints sent off to both Showsec and The venue. So, great band, but I don't think I will be rushing to see any acts at the Leeds Beckett student union any time soon. Shame, as it used to be a top venue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tallboyslim from Great artist, potentially great venue, shame about the chatterbox family in front Arrived early to get a good spot. Last minute arrivals appeared and then proceeded to talk through three songs like they've not seen each other for years. And then proceed to video the event. Great! Please ban photography, kick out the numpties who ruin it for everyone else. Beth Orton even said to folks 'Live in the moment and stop with the video'. marshalling inside the cathedral non existent!
