BPI, the body that represents UK music companies, has announced the creation of a major new Award which will recognise the very highest level of British music achievement - the BRITs Icon Award.
The BRITs Icon Award will become part of the established family of BRIT Awards, but will be celebrated at a separate stand-alone event each year. It will be presented only to iconic artists whose writing, recording and performances set them apart as having made a lasting impact on the nation's culture.
BPI is delighted to announce that the first recipient of the prestigious BRITs Icon Award will be Sir Elton John, CBE.
With a live performance from Sir Elton of some of his best-loved songs as well as new material from his forthcoming album The Diving Board, combined with a candid interview and special guest appearances, the show will be a spectacular tribute to his remarkable journey to become a revered British musical icon.
