Rated 5 out of 5 by from Coming Up for Air Davy Knowles has to be one of the best guitarists in the world that hardly anyone in the UK has ever heard of. This may be because he's still only 30 years old and although he was born on the Isle of Man took the decision 8 years ago to live in the USA in the home of electric blues, Chicago. Davy brings a fresh approach to the kind of music he grew up with and inspired him to play guitar, which included Dire Straits, Eric Clapton and Rory Gallagher. Most of his set was songs that he had written, which have some great choruses and riffs that keep bouncing around in your head. I have seen most of the greats but can't recall seeing a guitarist better at making his battered electric Fender sing or getting a more soulful sound when playing acoustic (a 1932 National). Davy also has the perfect voice for the blues, with plenty of soul but powerful when it needs to be. His backing musicians - bass guitar (5-string), drums and keyboards - were also of the highest calibre, and each made the most of the opportunity to show off their virtuosity in their solo spots. The venue is very intimate and it was brilliant to be able to enjoy such musical dexterity from close range. The cherry on the cake was getting the chance to meet Davy - he came into the audience at the interval and after the gig - and realising that he is genuinely a nice guy and incredibly modest for one so talented. This was Davy's first gig in the UK in 8 years but hopefully we won't have to wait nearly as long for the next one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic performance! The venue is small and sort of dingy, but the show itself was a fantastic experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Guitar Genius I've waited a long time to see Davy Knowles and then got to see him twice in a week, this was the 2nd gig and just like the 1st gig, didn't disappoint, the man is in my opinion up there with the very best blues/rock guitarists of today. His vocals are also very underrated, having a fantastic blues growl and the ability to hold a constant note when needed is a recipe for success. The band are all stunning musicians in their own right and show an obvious joy at each others virtuoso moments, ultimately it boils down to Davy and his guitar work, which delivers in skill/dexterity/nuance and phrasing by the bucket load. If this was 1976 there would be placards in the crowd proclaiming "Davy Is God" I for one would find it hard to disagree.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Davy Knowles returns to UK for first time in 8 years This was my first experience of Nells Jazz & Blues in West Kensington. Great venue, however, the staff should at least get the spelling of the artist's name correct when advertising tickets on the board outside the venue. Also, the intrusion of the in house music when the artist is performing an accoustic number was a tad embarrassing
