Drongos for Europe

These Birmingham based hardcore punk legends are massively popular on the circuit. They’ve played all the major festivals worldwide and have supported such punk household names as Crass, Poison Girls and Dead Kennedys, not to mention their fellow brummies, GBH, on many occasions.

First formed in 1979, they epitomised the DIY ethic, putting out 1000 copies of 1981 debut EP ‘Adverse Chorus’ out themselves (financed by a local tattoo artist) with handmade sleeves, before signing to Tempest Records in 1982 and releasing a couple of singles before the label went, as they say in the trade, ‘tits up’. Theirs next vinyl release was “Dresden” on a compilation album from Flicks studio in 1984. The band then split in 1985.

They reformed in ’87 and released  “Cool Baby /This Town” on Renegade Records in 1990, but, as is the case with so many other well known punk acts, the 90s saw a period of disillusionment and inactivity. However, the Drongos got their ‘second wind’ in the early noughties (legend has it thanks to encouragement from Jock of GBH) and have been gigging solidly to a larger – not to mention more fiercely loyal – fanbase than they’ve ever had before, thanks to their incendiary live shows and the albums ‘Barcode Generation’ and ‘Hotline to Hades’. Hail the Drongos!
