Sorry there are no shows for Gryphon right now.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Goonhilly from Why aren’t there more bassoons in rock? Or crumhorns… The legendary Gryphon appeared in front of a criminally small but enthusiastically happy crowd at Southampton’s Talking Heads in June. As the band themselves admitted “if Henry VIII had been in a rock band Gryphon would have been it”.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ElaineSamuels from Outstanding Gryphon were even better than I had hoped, having listened to their 1970s first album, from which they played a number of tracks brilliantly. All of the group played more than one instrument in a virtuoso way. I have never heard the recorder played so fast and so thrillingly! The bassoon is a delightful instrument with a quirky tone and a massive pitch range. I don't know the names of some of the earlier instruments played - probably "crumhorn" but these were wonderful to hear. The band were very tight (and I'm not talking booze) and fun and above all they put love into all their playing, with those little extra touches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Chris H from The old boys are back with a bang! Fantastic gig in a cosy intermit environment....I took my son to witness an experience that I thought would never happen in my lifetime. I had followed Gryphon from the age of 17, having bought the Raindance album with a £5 Christmas bonus at the end of 1975.My favourite album is Red Queen and I am pleased to say that tracks from this mighty album were included in the evening entertainment. The musicianship was outstanding considering all the hardship the band went through to re-discover the original music arrangements.......loved every minute!!
