GUADALUPE PLATA Tickets
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dinah Moe H from Last night of first UK tour I've seen Guadalupe Plata play several times before and have never been disappointed; this time was no exception. The venue was a good size, not overcrowded and had a good, friendly audience with mostly young people, but a few older heads about the place too, mine being one of them. Sound quality in the Hope and Ruin, Brighton, is really well done, I was at the front and it was fully absorbing, but for once I actually didn't get up with my ears ringing. The band had a couple of technical hitches that were quickly overcome and didn't marr the night's entertainment. If you have never seen Guadalupe Plata play before, then I strongly suggest you make amends at your next opportunity. This hardworking three piece are rising stars that are now beginning to sell out gigs outside of their native Spain, where they pack out venues to the point of needing to play two nights in a row, so go while you still have the chance to see them play small, intimate venues, and make sure you book in advance. Their sound has been well described by better reviewers than me, and a roll of their name through you tube will turn up plenty of examples, some with very inventive videos to go with them, Milana, Lorena, Calle 24 and Esclavo, for example; but if you need a hint, take a heavy handful of garage blues, interweave some arab flavouring, douse thoroughly in low-lying menace and lift at the edges with a little Latin humour. They are a bit different... a rare quality these days.
