Jon Boden Tickets
Sorry there are no shows for Jon Boden right now.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jonsi from Two Handsome Talented Young Men for the Price of One! My friend is a big fan of Jon Boden and as soon as I heard about his solo tour, I was a massive Bellowhead fan, I asked if she wanted to go, of course she did! So, I arranged the tickets and we made an evening of it, going for a meal first, straight from work, so we didn't arrive until part way through the warm up of Mr Boden down among the audience getting us singing along! The show proper began with Blair Dunlop, son of the guv'nor, showcasing some excellent guitar playing and a great voice, alongside some well chosen songs, some self-penned (nice sense of humour in the song about the Porsche) and some covers. It was an unusual format for a concert, in that it started with Jon Boden totally acoustic, sandwiched by Blair Dunlop, then more JB, then the interval, then more JB. After many years of fronting the band that has been described as the Leviathan of Folk, obviously he is a consummate show man, but out on his own with no one to "hide" behind, he talks about the songs and performs them, with multiple instruments, including a misbehaving shruty box, that he had created a means of playing with his foot, it is a great evening, really enjoyable. You don't exactly miss John Spiers, his former duo colleague, nor the other nine members of the band, however, if you are after the footstomping up and dancing night you would have had, don't be disappointed, this is a mature performer at the peak of his talent, knowledgeable about and with a great love of the music and songs he chooses to perform. As it was in Oxford, he mentioned JS, who was there, and the Half Moon (and its landlord) where he used to stay, so it was perhaps a more intimate gig than usual. I can't say his voice is the easiest to listen to, but folk was never supposed to be sung and played by "lounge singers", sometimes you may feel he won't reach the note in time, but he does and that is all part of the experience. A really good night and I would love to do it again, and so I am sure would my friend, probably more than I would!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Carole48 from Jon Solo Still a Great Act I saw Bellowhead live about ten times - best live act ever. I was always taken with Jon's charisma and musical talent. Now that he is going solo, it is a different experience but more personal and very entertaining. He performs a good mix of old stuff, new stuff and a few Bellowhead numbers to keep the fans happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lirazel from Exceeded my expectations! One man show: Without Bellowhead but still filled the stage and hall with his presence, music and accompanying sounds. Wonderful, intimate atmosphere of a small, informal venue with a licenced bar, and being able to see Jon Boden afterwards signing copies of his CD and other merchandise. Very grounded and enjoyable experience.
