What people are saying about Maximo Park

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Maximo Park/Lush/Public Service Broadcasting/Teleman/Fear Of Men/Warm Digits Travelled down from Edinburgh for Fatboy Slim on the Friday and then this event on Sunday at Times Square, Newcastle. A fantastic weekend made all the better by the very warm and welcoming locals. The Fatboy gig was good despite the rain and the lack of hits, although my good mood may have had more to do with the copious amounts of alcohol and my very lovely friend who accompanied me. Saturday was spent recovering (I'm not as young as I used to be) and then a superb meal at the excellent Fat Buddah restaurant near the Quayside. And so to Sunday and this gig. Warm Digits started proceedings and a terrific opener it was too. Their website states they are a 'trans-pennine, krautophonic blizzard-wave duo that emerged from Newcastle upon Tyne’s underground scene with a sound like Neu! and Cluster forming a supergroup with Giorgio Moroder, Emeralds, Kevin Shields, 70′s Eno and Keith Levene'. Sounds pretty good, right? They were! Next up was Fear Of Men. Can't really remember much about them to be honest. Not unpleasant, just not very memorable. Teleman followed. I'd seen them recently at the Hidden Door festival in Edinburgh (a superb pop-up event that utilises disused spaces) and was decidedly underwhelmed. However, they were much better here and I was glad to have another opportunity to see them. They just got better the longer they played. One of the main reasons I'd travelled down was to see Public Service Broadcasting, a band I have seen many times and who never fail to entertain. They did it again. I love this band. I approached Lush with a little trepidation. I have always liked some of their stuff but was aware of a reputation of failing to produce live back in the day. I thought they were pretty good, with a very folky meets 'shoegaze' sound. For me they were much better in the extended instrumental sections than the actual songs, which were ok but uninspired. Maximo Park. A band that had passed me by a little bit. I was aware of a few of their songs but had never really felt compelled to investigate further. How wrong was I? They took to the stage and proceeded it pump out great tune after great tune, working the crowd and putting on a terrific show. A great ending to an outstanding day. A word about Stage 2. I was unaware that there would be bands on at another stage inside an adjoining club. What a pleasant surprise. Some great bands and a terrific atmosphere. Special mention to High Tide and Kingsley Chapman & The Murder who were both excellent. All in all a great day with an outstanding line-up. I'll certainly be looking out for future events. Great job Newcastle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Loved Teleman Was really looking forward to seeing Teleman and PSB. They didn't disappoint. I'm sure there would have been a different atmosphere had the sun been shining. Sadly there was nothing you could do about that. There was however a complete lack of information about what the set up was, what time things were happening etc. Luckily we found a very helpful steward who was in his first day. He was lovely. Please thank him for us. Most of the others were rude and surley

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Headliners made it all worthwhile A day out with overpriced and poor quality beer was made up for by the excellent set by Maximo Park. You always get your money's worth from them live. Teleman were robbed of performing a blistering set with a measley 1/2 hour slot. Lush were far from that with the most tedious show of the event and should have been much earlier in the day and maybe for 5 mins. But thank you Paul Smith et al for making it all.worthwhile!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Cracking Gig in a Great location! Maximo Park never fail to deliver! A great set-list coupled with an energetic performance from the whole band. A great gig in Times Square too, friendly staff, no issues with the crowd and a very good line up of acts, especially Public Service Broadcasting! Top notch!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Times squared Well organised. Thankfully not too crowded but this would be down to ticket sales not the promoter. Plenty of bars but as a non drinker it took some time to find anywhere to buy coffee. Even then there was 'only instant left' after a busy day on the Saturday.
