Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intimate gig , massive sound Sub 89 isn't the greatest of venues to get a good view- you need to get up front to see the action but the sound is awesome. Jesus and Mary chain rocked out massively and seriously should be rocking the festivals. They still have it - in bag loads.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JAMC on top form Played loads of favourites and some new tracks. William was slow to start, but got into it by third song or so. Jim on fire. Rest of band sounded good too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful sound at the venue Band was good and did their best but sub89 sound engineer was keen on making it all super loud. I understand it's a club environment but everything was just a massive overdrive: can't hear instruments properly, vocals can be hardly distinguished as instrument levels were too high etc. I tried multiple locations within the venue and sound was awful in each of them. I've been to multiple venues (big and small) over the past 15 years and this was the worst sound I can think of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from JAMC @ Sub89 Reading 10-July-2017 This is the 2nd time in 3mths I've seen The JAMC, over 20yrs after last seeing them at Kentish Town Forum. I was completely 'blown-away' (I really hate that phrase as well) with their gig at Bournemouth Academy in April. So, when their intimate 'warm-up' gig at Sub89 was announced - I immediately bought tickets for me and my son. The set-list was the same for both, though still a great list, I'd have liked to have had Darklands or Happy When it Rains in there. The opening track is vital to ensure you grab the crowd, get them going, and take them with you for the rest of the gig. Where most bands might opt for and old favourite, a tried & tested crowd-pleaser, not so The Mary Chain. They open with a song from the new album - and it works. Classic Mary Chain power! A few more new songs pepper the set, none of which are out of place - even closing the encore with 'War on Peace' from the excellent new album, 'Damage and Joy'. Jim was particularly engaging with the crowd at Sub89, with some humour to boot. His throw-away comment "...here's a cheerful wee tune for you" just before the rolling thunderous refrain of 'Reverence' kicked in. Laugh? I nearly bought an Ed Sheeran album when I got home! (I didn't) It's obvious most, if not all, are there to hear all the classic JAMC tracks, but I would urge Jim to be less apologetic about playing 'new songs'. In my opinion, they are fantastic songs and, in time, will be regarded as the classics are. I had slight reservations before I went to the Bournemouth Academy gig - before buying the tickets, in fact. This was a combination of watching a couple of not-so-good YouTube clips; and a strong desire not to have my memories of earlier gigs spoiled. These reservations were proven to be unfounded from the moment the first bars of 'Amputation' blasted out from the Marshall speakers. In response to this song's first line: interest was well and truly won back in Bournemouth Academy where I bought the new album...and a T-shirt...and came back for more at Sub89. Maybe see you guys in EK if we happen to be back visiting at the same time - Irn Bru at the Monty?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Feedback heaven. Great intimate, hot and sweaty gig. My ears are still ringing. Couldn't hear a word all the way home. Great band who give it 100%. Great venue.
