THE WHITE HOTEL Presents The Necks
The White Hotel, Salford
Rated 2 out of 5 by DouglasDB from Wrong venue for this group This is a very comfortable venue - ie no seating hardly - and when i put my bag on the ground i was constantly told to pick it up off the floor -- to such a great group like the Necks, who play very meditative listening music. I wont be seeing them at the Jazz Cafe again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by rbultitude from Deep listening experience The Necks are one of the few bands I will always make time to see. This is for two reasons: They always perform a new, improvised set and they're a very special band. They have an almost unique ability to create a sound that is totally unified and mesmerising and this show really delivered on those fronts, particularly the second set - they nearly always play two 40 minute sets. The Jazz Cafe was a decent venue to see them in because of its spaciousness, sound quality, lighting and decor. However, with music such as this, it might have been better in a seated venue where the audience would have been more comfortable and there would be less likelihood of people talking through the show.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Diceman from The Necks, Brighton 2017 My sceond Necks gig this year, and right on my doorstep this time! The venue was wholly [holy?] suited to Lloyd, Tony and Chris' sound. A clevery miked drumkit brought out all the subtleties required from Bucks' percussive swathes, and an initial pickup issue for Lloyd was overcome and his resonant sound given air. The great thing about a Necks gig is the possibility of being 'transported' and tonight I had an 'awake dream'... the second set in particular had legs. Abrahams' playing trickled and waved creating a piece I wish I could again. Two sets played to a very attentive audience - Dictionary Pudding & Brighton Alternative Jazz Festival pulled off a splendid evening - again please!
