Deptford Dub Club All Day: Jerry Dammers Tickets

We’re absolutely thrilled that our June All-Day, Reggae Mini-Festival will be co-headlined by Jerry Dammers. Founder of the mighty Specials and the 2 Tone Record Label. Suffice it to say that 1981 was a critical year for Deptford and for many Jerry’s No. 1 single “Ghost Town” was the sound of that year. He also wrote and performed “Free Nelson Mandala”, spearheading the meteoric Birthday Celebration at Hyde Park.  Jerry Dammers promises us a “personal Revival selection.”

Our other headliner is the great Wassie One. Wassie is a long-time stalwart of the London Roots Reggae scene and always plays up a storm. The mighty Wassie spins a rich and wide spectrum of music of Jamaican origin, from Ska and Rocksteady “Gram Favourites”, to the hardest Roots Reggae.

The afternoon will commence with a warm-up selection from Mr. Wax followed by Vandorta. She’ll be familiar to anybody who frequents Sounds of the Universe and has performed here before as part of the Soul Jazz Soundsystem.

Following Vandorta, will be Mr. Dammers. Then there will be more of the semi-live action for which the Club is known, with some fresh Dubplate action. Soft Wax will be spinnin’ the rhythms. On the mic singjay action Doc Murdoch with Horn Section, led by Tombone and featuring Natty.

We will entertain you with music of Jamaican origin, of the highest order, throughout this session. From Ska, through Rocksteady, to classic Roots and on to contemporary Steppers. All spun in traditional Soundsystem style.
