A key member of the California soft rock scene, Doheny cut his teeth playing at the Troubador on Sunset Strip alongside Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, and The Eagles who all went on to become label-mates on David Geffen's Asylum Records.

Doheny achieved 70's chart success in the USA, UK and Japan; with strikingly imaginative lyrics and an unrivalled grasp of rhythm, many artists such as Average White Band, Chaka Khan and George Benson have all made hits from Doheny compositions.
