The Wedding Present have been one of the UK's most loved bands since forming back in 1985. Via records such as 'George Best', 'Seamonsters' and 'Take Fountain' they grew into an intriguing outfit drawing on influences from The Fall and The Buzzcocks and adding their unique stamp to remain as relevant now as almost 40 years ago.

With a tour on the horizon and several brand new projects being worked through, we caught up with David Gedge to talk about what to expect from the shows and what else is happening in The Wedding Present's camp right now.

English indie-rockers - THE WEDDING PRESENT - have announced a headline show in Manchester for Spring 2024, marking the 30th anniversary of ‘Watusi’.

Heading to the Academy 2 on 24 May 2024, the band will be performing the acclaimed 1994 album in full along with other classics from their extensive repertoire. Tickets for the show will be available from 2pm on Friday 15 September.

The Wedding Present first formed in 1985, and have since amassed eighteen UK Top 40 singles and have toured extensively at home and abroad. With an ever-evolving take on indie-rock, the band have been led throughout their career by vocalist and guitarist David Gedge, the band’s only constant member.

Their successes aren’t bad for a band that has, from its very inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry’s game. In that fashion, The Wedding Present released their self-funded debut single “Go Out and Get ‘Em Boy!”  in 1985.

A pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since. From ‘George Best’ (dubbed “an unmitigated delight” by NME), their first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charged an appealing and at times eccentric course of its own.

Now the band are back to mark another milestone in their career with their ‘Watusi’ 30th Anniversary Tour.
