What people are saying about Nina Nesbitt

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A change in style On Monday 20th November, I went to see Nina Nesbitt for I think the 5th time in 4 years. Ever since I heard "Stay out" on a television chart show in 2014,i was hooked on this amazing singer-songwriter. Back in 2014 Nina was easily recognised by her mass of blonde hair, her music was 'pop' with a story behind each song, many of which are about situations affecting young people. Fast forward to 2017, Nina now has dark short hair and her music is more deep and 'alternative' she has swapped her guitar for keyboard and drum backing, but her voice is still the same. Nina and her band, a keyboard player and drummer came on the stage around 9pm and played for nearly an hour. She opened with a sample of a song which I think was called "Sacred" followed by "The moments I'm missing" which is her latest single. Nina then turned back the clock to great applause when she sang "The apple tree" and "Stay out" Her set continued with more up to date material from her last two EPs "Modern love" and "Life in colour" as well as new songs which Nina is planning to include in her second album. She finished her set with "Somebody special" which is due for release in January 2018. The audience had not had enough and chanted for me. Nina and her band returned to play "Boy" a song from an early EP, with young ladies from the audience singing the chorus with her. Nina finished with "The hardest part" a song about heartbreak.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from An enjoyable concert with lots of new material I’d seen Nina in December 2014 when she performed with just an (electric) guitarist and I noted: “A lovely performance. Very natural with easy manner and lots of smiles.” I would say that still applied to this concert at the Deaf Institute in Manchester last Wednesday. However, I sensed an unease about her performance this time, which was perhaps because only three of the songs were old ones, and it was perhaps a bit ambitious of her to offer so much new and therefore unfamiliar material, and there wasn’t the same engagement with and involved response of the audience she’d enjoyed last time. One appreciates that artists have to progress and their style evolve but, at first hearing, I’d say the new songs aren’t as immediately appealing or interesting in their lyrics, and there were no really strong, memorable tunes. She performed with percussionist and two guitarists (one sometimes played keyboard) and the balance was excellent, with her voice clearly audible. One disappointment was that she sang for juts 45 minutes, with just 10 songs, compared with 65 minutes and 14 songs the last time I saw her; however, she did say that she’d be back in the summer with a bigger tour if she can write enough new songs by then. Despite some negative comments, this was still an enjoyable concert, and it’s always nice to see a singer perform who clearly enjoys performing and relates easily and naturally with the audience.
