  • & Juliet the musical - Larger than life

& Juliet opened in November 2019 and we hope it stays open forever! Do you love music, dance and laughing- if yes this Max Martin produced, Shakespeare musical love story with a twist, will most likely have you on your feet by the end of the first number. You can get your boyfriend, girlfriend, nanna or children & Juliet tickets and you will all leave wanting to create your own version.

Featuring hits from artists such as Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Backstreet Boys, N'sync, Celine Dion and The Weeknd it is no wonder this show is captivating audiences both young and old.

    The story of & Juliet

We are all familiar with the William Shakespeare classic, Romeo and Juliet but David West Read (Netflix's Schitt's Creek) turns the story on its head in his book, & Juliet. His adaptation asks the question, what if Juliet had a life after Romeo? What would happen if when she saw him dead she decided to choose to continue living?

In this retelling of Juliet's famous story, we see her take on a new lease of life. The Bard himself is forced to rewrite Juliet's ending, or rather her beginning, at the instruction of his wife, Anne Hathaway... Not The Princess Diaries Anne Hathaway, the original Anne Hathaway.

Early on in the show, Anne challenges William about the young girl he has written about. She cannot understand why Juliet would end her life after this short-lived adolescent relationship. Anne asks her husband, 'are you a strong enough man, to write a strong woman' and from there, we begin to see Juliet as we never have before.

Going on a girl’s trip after Romeo's death, Juliet also goes on a journey of self-discovery while meeting some fantastic characters that Anne helps create. The question is, will Shakespeare like Anne's version for long, or will Romeo have to make a reappearance in this story?

    & Juliet Cast and Creative

The narrative is shared with the audience in the sharp and witty script by West Read, along with the anthemic soundtrack produced by Max Martin. The & Juliet Max Martin combination is one the musical theatre world did not know we needed until now. This is a soundtrack with music that proves Max Martin cannot not only dominate the pop world, but now the musical world too.

Part of the brilliance and popularity of & Juliet West End tickets is of course the incredibly talented cast. Holding their own with powerful vocals, quick comedic timing and dance moves that will make you wish you had auditioned for the show yourself.

Playing the title role is the marvellous Miriam-Teak Lee (Hamilton, On the Town) who has been nominated for the Best Actress in a Musical Olivier Award category. Oliver Tompsett (Kinky Boots, Rock of Ages) as Shakespeare himself, and Cassidy Janson as Anne Hathaway (Man of La Mancha, Avenue Q) who has also been nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical.

We have Olivier Award winner David Bedella (In the Heights, Jerry Springer the Opera) who has also been nominated for a Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Melanie La Barrie (Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof) as nurse and Jordan Luke Gage (Bat out of Hell) as Romeo. Arun Blair Mangat (Angels in America, Kinky Boots) as May and Timothy Mahendran (Midnight Gang, Spring Awakening) playing Francios.

These wonderful performers are also supported by one of the most talented and energetic chorus's in the West End to date. Directed by Luke Sheppard (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, In the Heights) and choreographed by Jennifer Weber (The Hip-Hop Nutcracker, Cruel Intentions). The show has everything you need to make a 5-star musical.

Critics love the 9-time Olivier Award nominated show

That's right, & Juliet has been nominated for 9 Olivier awards this year including Best New Musical. This show has been nominated for the performance of the cast, the score, the costume, the set and more. We truly mean it when we say this show has everything you could want in a musical.

With nominations like these it is safe to say the Shaftesbury Theatre is roaring each night. See what critics have to say about the & Juliet West End theatre show.

What people are saying about & JULIET

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant show Saw this show when it premiered in Manchester last September. Loved every minute of it, but it is fast and furious. Saw it again in February in the West End and enjoyed it even more because I knew what was coming - have the cd playing on repeat in the car. Was hoping to see it again later this month on my birthday but, unfortunately due to Covid 19, it’s now been postponed. So pleased to see that it is now booking until June 2021. Brilliant show, one for all the family.

A fantastic explosion of humour combined with sing-a-long music and some reference to Shakespeare. On a par with ‘Jamie’. Amazing. Will watch again
