What the Critics Have Been Saying About Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway

"This gorgeous heartbreaker of a musical has grown in emotional potency during its journey to the big leagues, after first being produced in Washington and off-Broadway. Rarely - scratch that - never have I heard so many stifled sobs and sniffles in the theatre." - New York Times

"Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's score, orchestrated by Alex Lacamoire, brims with tuneful and thoughtful songs that sound, as few Broadway songs do, like they could be on the radio tomorrow "- Time Out

"While the show revolves around teenagers, this isn't High School Musical or Grease, but a very adult musical? It's a powerful, intimate, original and redemptive story." - The Stage

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really fantastic show I had heard a lot of buzz about this show and I tried to go in as ignorant about the plot as possible. It’s a fantastic story and it really made me emotional in part. The acting and singing was flawless and the staging really enhanced the modern themes. I’m telling everybody to go and see it! My only qualm, and it’s something that can’t really be changed, regards the seats which were a little cramped. They didn’t distract from the show.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning, authentic, relevant theatre Dear Evan Hansen is just an amazing night at the theatre from the thought provoking authentic storyline to the dynamic moving set and the 8 ensemble performances, you go on a journey of emotions with these two broken families. The music is superb and the fast paced action and story telling makes you feel like you are watching through a window the private lives of these complex individuals. Having said that; there is great humour in the text and lyrics to lighten what Is a devastating topic ( thinking of the most current news stories) . It is a must see show....... I just wish the tickets were affordable for schools to take students too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic musical - important topic with great tunes I saw DEAR EVAN HANSEN before it hit Broadway back in early 2016, and I absolutely loved it. Ben Platt did an amazing performance, and I still love his voice on the soundtrack. I’m sure that the London cast will be brilliant, too, and I’ll be going to see it there, too.
