"Saddle Up for a Knight to Remember" (Times)

After a lifetime of reading books on chivalry, one eccentric old man heads off on a rumbustious quest to become a wandering knight accompanied by his faithful and equally ill-suited servant, 'riotously performed by David Threlfall as Don Quixote and Rufus Hound as Sancho Panza' (The Times).

Taking up a lance and sword, Don Quixote sets out on a hilarious journey across medieval Spain, defending the helpless and vanquishing the wicked. Hopelessly unprepared and increasingly losing his grip on reality, with each calamitous adventure the two hapless heroes experience, the romantic ideal of Quixote?s books seems further away than ever.

Following its sell-out run at the Swan Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2016 to mark the 400th anniversary of Cervantes' death, the Royal Shakespeare Company's 'joyous' (Guardian) production of this legendary comic novel is told by a company of 20 actors accompanied by a band of live musicians.

Adapted for the stage by James Fenton and directed by Angus Jackson this 'magical' (Telegraph) production has opened to critical acclaim at the Garrick Theatre playing until 2 February.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great theatre night out... Brilliant cast, fabulous performances. We loved the audience involvement and many comic moments. Poignant too in places, the intimate, historic setting at The Garrick made it very special. We loved it and laughed throughout - highly recommend it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from one of the best shows of the year ! My husband and I went to see this having seen reviews in the press. It did not disappoint. Brilliant acting by the entire cast, but particularly David Threlfall and Rufus Hound. Great fun, full of hilarity, the audience was in stitches most of the time. I would highly recommend it to anyone of any age.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing and absorbing take on a great literary classic Sitting in the front row, we could really participate in a remarkably thrilling and poignant performance. The production was highly imaginative, and the acting and singing first-class. The atmosphere was almost like a pantomime: this production should appeal to audiences of all ages. A great night out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from amazing acting, but what a boring play! the play was so boring, but the acting by everyone was fantastic. the gags were good and reminded me of life of Brian, but honestly, the people on both sides of me (one being my wife) fell asleep. and I'd forgotten how 'Ryanair' the seat spacing and legroom was...especially, when someone is sleeping and is unaware of their personal space. David Threlfall's acting was astonishingly good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A surprising enjoyable musical Very funny and moving show, great comedic turn from all the cast, memorable music and singing. My only proviso was my fellow audience; I had to change my seat in the interval as a girl in the front row moved around constantly blocking the view of everyone unfortunate to be seated behind her. My new neighbour put her feet up on the back of the one in front of her! What has happened to etiquette? Really, some people shouldn't be allowed out in public!!
