Alistair McGowan-Introductions to Classical Piano
The Witham, Barnard Castle.
This event is for over 14s only - No refunds will be issued for under 14s.
Alistair McGowan is an impressionist, stand-up comedian, actor, writer and, latterly, pianist. His TV credits include The Big Impression, Bleak House, Live At The Apollo and he was one of the voices and writers of the new hit comedy show, The Week That Wasn’t (Sky One). As an actor, he has appeared in the West End in Pygmalion, Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop of Horrors (for which he was Olivier-nominated). He devised and performed Sincerely Noel (a musical tribute to Noel Coward) and, in 2016, Erik Satie’s-faction, a one-man play in which he portrayed Erik Satie and played several of his piano pieces. He has also written Radio 4 plays (and fronted Radio 4 documentaries) about Satie and John Field.
After the success of his recent piano album (released through Sony Classical), Alistair McGowan premieres a brand new show which brings together all his talents. He will play tracks from the album and some other short classics piano pieces: from Gershwin to Grieg, Mompou to Mendelssohn, Satie to Schubert. In between the pieces, he will talk a little about history of each piece, the composer and his own connection to the music.
Expect a lot of beautiful music (with the odd mistake!), some interesting stories and a sprinkling of his trademark impressions.
