Barrow Hill's 150+2 Celebration Gala Tickets
Barrow Hill Roundhouse, Chesterfield.
Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. We cannot issue refunds to under 16s who are not accompanied by an adult.
Join us in a celebration of the much anticipated 150th birthday of Barrow Hill Roundhouse, the UK's last surviving operational railway roundhouse, delayed for two years by the Covid pandemic. In a sentimental nod to the past, the 150+2 Gala will be a celebration of the British Railways-era Open Days which took place at the Roundhouse in the 1970s and early 1980s.
There will be opportunities to view a special line up of locomotives in the Roundhouse itself and the yard will be opened up to allow cab visits to visiting and resident locomotives. Train rides from the Roundhouse Halt platform up the Springwell branch line, trade and railway society stalls, food and drink stands, a range of children's activities and historical enactments of Roundhouse characters will celebrate the extraordinary 150 years this unique railway building has stood for.
Commercial railway companies who have used the site since it reopened in 1998, as well as heritage railway organisations, have been invited to send exhibits to celebrate their respective organisations' involvement in the Roundhouse story and enhance the Gala's Open Day theme.
