Boo Hewerdine & Darden Smith
The Running Horse, Nottingham.
This promises to be a very special show as only a handful of under the radar gigs are taking place with these two master songwriters!
Nearly 30 years ago now in 1989, a certain Nigel Grainge of Ensign Records came up with the idea of putting two up and coming singer songwriters from different countries, who had never met each other, together to make a record. These two hopefuls were Boo Hewerdine from the UK and Darden Smith from the USA. As it happened they got on very well and released the excellent album ‘Evidence’, which garnered some really good reviews.
Since then they have both prospered in their careers with Boo fronting his band The Bible in the 1980’s and has been the main guitarist and songwriter for Eddi Reader for many years. Boo has also developed his own solo career and has been nominated for the prestigious Ivor Novello Award.
Darden has also pursued a successful musical career and is now well known for his Songwriting With:Soldiers programme. This organizes weekend retreats during which professional songwriters are paired with veterans and active duty service members who share stories about their experiences of combat and the return home. Working collaboratively, the musicians and soldiers turn those stories into songs. His catalog of albums is truly sensational.
