Carla Bley began performing with her husband Paul Bley in the late 1960's. She is a first-rate composer of Post-Bop Jazz who has worked with Gary Burton, Charlie Haden and more. Her most famous work is the 1971 album 'Escalator over the Hill'.

An ECM recording artist, bandleader and composer, Andy Sheppard is one of Europe’s leading saxophonists and one of a very few British musicians to have made a significant impact on the international jazz scene, playing and writing for settings from solo to big band and chamber orchestra.

Steve Swallow studied composition at Yale University and started performing in 1960 with Carla Bley, The Jimmy Giuffre Trio, Eric Dolphy, Thad Jones, Joao Gilberto, CHico Hamilton, Clark Terry, Chick Corea and Benny Goodman.
