Damien O'Kane & Ron Block
Kingskerswell Parish Church, Newton Abbot.
Damien and Ron will embark on their first tour together in July and August 2018. They will be joined by a band of wonderful musicians and together will play material from their debut album, due for release July 2018, as well as a few signature pieces of their own.
These incredible musicians will amaze audience members with their finger lickin’ pickin’ and they are mighty fine gentlemen to go along with it. Having collaborated and shared the stage in the past with none other than Kate Rusby, they are gearing up for a special tour together.
O’Kane began his career touring and trekking around the globe with his family band. Steeped in music, passed on through his parents, Damien grew up in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, with a deep respect and understanding of the folk tradition, yet which also forged a healthy appetite to explore its broadest borders and test its boundaries. All of which has culminated in his critically acclaimed 2015 solo album ‘Areas Of High Traffic’.
Damien had a stint with Irish/Anglo supergroup Flook in 2007/8 and during his time in the band he quickly gained recognition for his banjo and vocal talents. Now currently a solo artist and a full-time member of Kate Rusby’s band, O’Kane is much in demand. All the while, Damien is an outstanding banjo player, regarded as one of the finest on the Irish music scene. And a superb guitarist. And an ingenious arranger. Not to mention an accomplished tunemaker, researcher, bandleader, producer and accompanist of rich imagination and fearless vision. You may think you know the music of Damien O’Kane but think again - his inspirational album Areas of High Traffic will certainly leave you wondering.
