Gryphon may not be one of the better known of the British progressive bands, but they are surely one of the most unique and interesting. The five albums they produced between 1973 and 1977 show their evolution from an all-acoustic medieval music quartet to a progressive rock band. They toured the UK, Europe and US extensively in the 70s and are now making a welcome return.
3 out of the 4 original members Brian Gulland, Graeme Taylor and Dave Oberlé have reformed the band with the help of 3 more superb musicians, Graham Preskett, Rory McFarlane and Andy Findon, maintaining their legendarily massive sonic palette of instruments old and new, and they are celebrating the release of the first brand new album in 41 years entitled ReInvention.
Revitalised and reinvented, the virtuoso musicianship and songwriting flair that marked them out in the 70s has been pushed even further. Quirky, unique, exciting, Gryphon are all these things. And with new material as well as old being performed, their return to form is nothing short of astounding.
