Named after the Eddie Bo 45 of the same name, HOOK & SLING is London's Funk Weekender dedicated to bringing you the finest Funk bands from the past and present and DJ's playing the hardest Funk 45's in existence.

Rhythm Machine hail from Omaha, Nebraska and they released their debut Funk 45 'Freakish Love' in 1975. The following year saw the band release their debut self-titled album on the Indianapolis record label Lulu. Their second single 'Put a Smile On Time' came out in 1976. Egon's Now-Again record label re-issued the band's entire back catalgoue in 2012.

Will Sessions hail from Detroit and are arguably the best funk group in the world today. A slew of killer 45's on the Funk Night record label with Billy Love, Rickey Calloway & Amp Fiddler have sent the funk/breaks world into overdrive with copies of some of these singles already selling for big money in the collectors world. Will Sessions have also collaborated with Mayer Hawthorne, Black Milk, Elzhi, Danny Brown and more.

Rickey Calloway is the self-proclaimed "King of Funk" who released his debut single "Tell Me" in 1970. After Kenny Dope re-mixed and re-issued the single in 2004 Rickey has joined forces with The Dap-Kings, Will Sessions and The Soul Surfers to release singles on the Funk Night and Kay Dee labels.

The Soul Surfers are Russia's finest Funk/Soul band whose 2015 debut album on Ubiquity Records, 'Soul Rock!', was preceded by some of the heaviest Funk 45's you are ever likely to hear.

One of the UK's toughest Funk combos, Funkshone make a rare live appearance. Led by Mike Bandoni, Funkshone have released two albums since 2006 and have been remixed by Kenny Dope.

The DJ line up for this year's Hook & Sling Funk Weekender features the first set from Brooklyn's Mr. Fine Wine (a.k.a. Matt Weingarden)in the UK since 2001. His 'Downtown Soulville' Radio show on WFMU has been introducing the world to some of the rarest records for decades now. Breakestra's Music Man Miles jets in from Los Angeles again to play his superlative selection, Funk Night Records' Frank Raines is coming in again from Detroit as is Guernsey's DJ Oneofakind. 'Sister Funk' compiler, Ian Wright, plays at the Hook & Sling for the first time. The 'Deep Funk' club co-founder Snowboy plays on both nights as does his South London Soul Train DJ partner Perry Louis.
