Hull Independent Cinema presents... ENYS MEN In 1973 on an uninhabited island off the Cornish coast, a volunteer wildlife surveyor’s daily observations of the same rare flower slowly drive her into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Evoking the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace, this is a provocative and masterful vision that forces both its protagonist and its viewers to question the nature of reality. Starring Mary Woodvine, Edward Rowe, Flo Crowe AWARDS & FESTIVALS London Film Festival: Nominee, Best Film "Shot by Jenkin on 16mm color negative with a 1970s clockwork Bolex and scored with post-synch sound, the film looks and sounds as a relic unearthed from one of the island’s caves." REVIEWS
"The witchy atmosphere Jenkin conjures is spine-tinglingly devilish, the poetic manifestation of the subject’s deep grief, ever-ambiguous and frosty, taking on the aching melancholy of loss." Jack King, The Playlist
"It is not exactly a horror film, despite some spasms of disquiet, but an uncanny evocation of how, when left utterly on our own, we spiral inwards into our memories, dreams and fears." ★★★★ Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
The venue is open all day, so why not come along early to grab a drink and a snack? The programme run time includes an allowance for introductions and up to three trailers. While we will endeavour to accommodate latecomers, this may not always be possible. Please note that we reserve the right to refuse entry, without a refund, to anyone arriving after the advertised start time.
Please note the pedestrian entrance to Princes Quay is either via the Quayside entrance (next to Nandos) or via the footpath from Waterhouse Lane / Bonus Arena. Both entrances off Carr Lane are closed after 6pm. The car park entrance remains unaffected.
