ROSALIE
Dir Stéphanie Di Giusto | 2023 | France | 115 min | 15 | French

France, 1870s. Rosalie is a young woman unlike any other. She hides a secret: she was born with a face and body covered in hair. She's concealed her peculiarity all her life to stay safe, shaving to fit in. Until Abel, an indebted bar owner unaware of her secret, marries Rosalie for her dowry. Will Abel be able to love Rosalie and see her as the woman she is, once he finds out the truth? Based on the life of early 20th century ‘bearded lady’ Clémantine Delait.

Starring Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Benoît Magimel, Benjamin Biolay

REVIEWS
"A very watchable, offbeat slice of period drama." Leslie Felperin, The Hollywood Reporter

"Stéphanie Di Giusto is a talented filmmaker who likes to look at the past without delving too deeply into potentially disruptive nuances within a contemporary framework." Antonio Trashorras, Fotogramas

"Nadia Tereszkiewicz is a force to be reckoned with in the title role." ★★★★ FILMUFORIA,
Meredith Taylor

ACCESSIBILITY
This film will be presented with Descriptive Subtitles. Please read on for more information.

Hull Independent Cinema is working towards creating more accessibility for our audiences. HIC have decided to present all our films with descriptive subtitles, where available.

Descriptive subtitles refer to subtitles intended for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are also known as HOH (Hard of Hearing) subtitles or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). These subtitles are a transcription rather than a just translation; in addition to reproducing dialogue, they aim to describe additional non-dialogue sounds available to a hearing audience, e.g. “(sighs)” or “(door creaks)” and song lyrics. In our experience, guests do not find the subtitles distracting, especially as the majority of our films are subtitled foreign language films.

AGE RATING
ROSALIE is rated 15. Under 15s will not be admitted. For more information, please see the film's page on the BBFC website
