Considered as one of the most prodigious guitarists of his generation, the New York-based musician Julian Lage returns to EFG London Jazz Festival with his trio featuring Scott Colley on bass and Kenny Wollesen on drums.
Often categorised as a jazz musician, Lage's music is rooted in both traditional & acoustic forms. At the tender age of eight, he was the subject of an Academy Award nominated documentary Jules at Eight, as a child prodigy. He has recorded with Gary Burton, David Grisman, Eric Harland, Anthony Wilson, Martin Taylor, Joshua Bell and Yoko Ono.
Alongside his collaborations with Jim Hall, Mark O'Connor, Nels Cline, Chris Eldridge, Scott Colley & Antonio Sanchez among others, Julian has released five albums as leader. Most recently 2019's Love Hurts, received a nomination in the Best Improvised Jazz Solo category with the track Tomorrow Is The Question. In 2017, his duo album with Chris Eldridge, Mount Royal, had earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
"One of jazz's breezier virtuosos, possessed of an unflappable technical facility and a seemingly boundless curiosity" (The New York Times)
