The DIG Brothers (Gip & Lubi) Present

MELTING POT

A monthly live music & good food session

jazz/soul/funk/world music bands + Salvo's Pop Up

Friday 18th June - MELTING POT LAUNCH PARTY

SOUL COOKER + DIG Brothers DJs

7pm-11pm - food from 7pm - 2 live sets between 8.00pm-11pm

Legendary Leeds jazz/soul/funk/world music DJ/promotion crew The DIG Family pretty much ran things up north from their base in the city from 1985 to 2002. In particular in the 1990s, their clubnights (Yardbird Suite/The Cooker/Casa Latina), at the much missed Underground Club in Leeds were epic. Regularly featuring the best bands and DJs from around the world at their sessions including Roy Ayers, Terry Callier, Gilles Peterson, Eddie Palmieri, Jazzanova, Azymuth, Jimmy Smith, Mr Scruff, Tania Maria, Sharon Jones, Rainer Truby, The Herbaliser, Charles Earland, Ozomatli, Lee Fields, Joyce and many more amazing artists and musicians.

Almost 20 years after the crew split, two of the original members are reuniting as co-promoters for the first time to present a monthly live music and good food session at The Old Woollen at Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley. Gip Dammone and Lubi Jovanovic will be programming monthly nights of live bands and spinning the best recorded sounds past and present plus Gip's award winning Leeds Italian Restaurant - Salvo's in Headingley - will be running a pop-up at each session. Welcome to Melting Pot

This launch party is a socially distanced seated show with just 100 capacity via 25 tables of four. Future shows may be seated or standing depending on government regulations regarding managing the covid pandemic.

The launch party kicks off with an all-star soul jazz band SOUL COOKER featuring musicians from The Haggis Horns and The New Mastersounds.

Expect a heavy hitting soul jazz group influenced by the classic US organ jazz combos of the 1960s who recorded for Blue Note Records and Prestige Records. We're talking about people like Jimmy Smith, Lou Donaldson, Grant Green, Reuben Wilson, Charles Earland, Big John Patton etc. And what an allstar band it is too. From one of the top UK funk bands The Haggis Horns, we have trumpeter Malcolm Strachan, tenor saxophonist Atholl Ransome, guitarist Ben Barker and drummer Erroll Rollins. They are joined by original Hammond organist with The New Mastersounds and also member of Mojah and Vibeology Bob Birch

Before, between and after live sets, DJs Lubi and Gip will be playing all the right music but not necessarily in the right order. A seven decade musical journey across five continents covering past and present jazz, soul, funk, reggae, Latin beats, Brazilian music and Afro sounds. Check out their DIG Family Favourites show every 1st and 3rd Saturday 12.00-14.00 UK time on www.totallywiredradio.com for a taste of their musical selections.

Early doors, Salvo's Restaurant will be running a pop-up each session and serving great food from 7pm. For more information on the menu and dishes available, check the website link below. Live music will take place between 8pm and 10.30pm with DJ sets before, between and after live sets.
