Plantfood are a 6 piece blood-pumping alt-jazz force summoning up an intricate mix of electronic and acoustic layers with influences all the way from spiritual jazz to contemporary club music. Coming out of Leeds Conservatoire in 2021, their heavyweight musicianship and exciting compositions/arrangements had them destined for big things from the start. After conquering the buzzing local alt-jazz & beats scene very quickly, they began dropping musical bombs/releases worldwide with a brace of self-release singles and EPs plus live appearances beyond the Leeds city boundary.

Plantfood’s sound takes inspiration from artists such as The Prodigy, Mulatu Astatke and John Coltrane. From the mosh pit to serene soundscapes and back again, the journey Plantfood takes you on is an unforgettable one. Last year at Glastonbury festival, Plantfood headlined the Croissant Neuf stage on Saturday night was credited by Worldwide FM/Soho Radio DJ Papaoul as the “best discovery of Glastonbury 2023”.

From We Out Here and Beat-Herder last year to Shambala and Wilderness this year, Plantfood have toured all over the UK with festival appearances plus sell out shows in London, Leeds, Falmouth, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. Plantfood’s momentum continues to grow as winners of the 2023 Drake Yolanda award.

The band's releases were also selected for playlisting on DJ Tina Edwards’ British Airways inflight radio show ‘Next Big Thing’ as well as Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds Jazz: Best of 2022’. As they gear up for the release of their long awaited debut album, they dropped a killer new single this summer. "Y.U.S" is a riff heavy, breakbeat punk-funk monster featuring friend and former fellow Leeds scene artist (now in London) MC Y.U.S (Yung Unorthodox Spitter). One for the mosh pit jazz gang.

Main support is Mikoudi, the much respected future soul/nujazz band with musicians based in London and Leeds. Since dropping their debut single "Senza" in autumn 2022, they've built up a strong following, first in Leeds and then UK wide, with their live shows featuring great soulful vocals, heavy beats, a powerful rhythm section alongside virtuoso horn players.

Mikoudi play a future soul/alt-jazz/electronica fusion where broken beats meets 1970s jazz funk influences. Musically, they admire artists like Nubiyan Twist/Hiatus Kaiyote/Allysha Joy who have the same focus as Mikoudi for strong upfront vocals married to heavy beats. They've done some high profile support slots for UK soul don Omar as well as London alt-jazz artists Pyjaen and Myele Manzanaza. Plus some big festival shows at We Out Here, Manchester Jazz Festival, Wilderness Festival and Leeds Jazz Festival. First time back to Brudenell since February (when they supported Heritage at the latter's EP launch), get down and catch them playing some new tunes alongside previous favourites.

After they smashed a great set at the summer TC & The Groove Family Brudenell show, DJ Lubi had to get lofi hip-hop duo Kaesu & Alex FB back to the venue asap. With the soulful rhymes of MC Kaesu alongside the headnodding beats and amazing scratches of DJ Alex FB, they rock the party with an old school meets new school hip-hop flavour. Influences from A Tribe Called Quest to Loyle Carner and all points between, sampling heavily from the soul/funk/jazz musical spectrum. Get down early and catch them warming up the show. Their last Brudenell gig was epic.
