Theres a whole generation of people who may have moved into Peterborough after 1999 who in this period in their part of the country were massive fans of Grunge, Brit Pop , Big Beat , - bands such as 90’S MUSIC BY NIRVANA, THE PRODIGY, GREEN DAY, BJORK, BLUR, BEASTIE BOYS, OASIS, PULP, THE CURE, PLACEBO, PIXIES, THE STONE ROSES, DEPECHE MODE, HAPPY MONDAYS, NINE INCH NAILS, MARILYN MANSON, HOLE, FATBOY SLIM, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, AND MORE! whoi are not aware that there was also a club in Peterborough was playing exactly those bands and more!

Every Saturday night in this period meant only one place to be - the VIP Suite upstairs in the function room at 5th Avenue Nightclub Peterborough where from 9pm through til 2am, Peterboroughs 'alternative' crowd gathered for the weekly club night known as 'The Sugar Club'

Who would have thought that back in August 1991 a promoter and a gaggle of young DJ's would start a night that's seen Madchester Baggy / Grunge / Brit Pop / Big Beat and more survive through to the current day!

The Sugar Club life story encases the initial years from 1991-1999 when the club was based at the old 5th Avenue Function room

Memories of sitting on stairs,(and being told to get off them!!) jumping off window ledges, a massive sound system, a bar continually understaffed and toilets that were continually underwater!

But for some of us it was the best Saturday night out ever - relationships were made and still continue to this day...

After a 2 year break to recharge the batteries then its time for the original 'Sugar Club Survivors' to come out and play one more time as the original team of DJ's dust down the CD's and relive those memories one more time!

Friday 24th August is the date for the diaries...

Doors open from 9pm, entry is discounted with the flyers that you'll see all around town from next weekend. 90p house spirits for 90 minutes from 9pm.

Or, guarantee your entry by booking your tickets in advance - arrive when you want to upto 11.30pm!

We could say strictly 18+ but lets be honest, we'ed all love to be asked for ID by the doorstaff!!

If you were 18 back in August 1991 when this whole adventure started then you're now closer to retirement than you are to the legal drinking age!

But that doesn't matter, you'll probably have the next day off work so come along and see these friends you've not seen since August last year as we remember once again what made the 90's so memorable for all of us!!
