THIS CLASS TALKS: in conversation with Magid Magid
92 Burton Road, Sheffield.
This Class Talks is an evening of conversation with the Lord Mayor Magid Magid and Pete McKee. This will be a unique opportunity to hear Majid and Pete talk about growing up in Sheffield, the working class and the positive impact both refugees and immigrants have made to the UK. Pete will host a Q&A with Majid and discuss Sheffield's new Lord Mayor's recent shot to fame as the youngest person to ever hold this position.
Magid Magid is the 122nd Lord Mayor of Sheffield. Not only is he the youngest Lord Mayor Sheffield has had, he is also the first from the Green Party. At the age of five Magid and his family came to Sheffield from Somalia. He grew up in the S4 area where he attended Fir Vale Secondary School.
'Although it seems a bit surreal that I am Lord Mayor of my home city Sheffield, it is a real privilege and honour. Sheffield welcomed me and my family with open arms and this is one way I can truly give back to this incredible city that has given me and others so much. During my tenure I will be focussing on championing young people and celebrating all the amazing creative culture that we produce.'
This one-off event will take place on Saturday the 28th of July, from 8pm - 9:30pm. This event will be held at 92 Burton Road, Sheffield, S3 8DA the same location as Pete's exhibition, THIS CLASS WORKS, will be held.
Tickets are priced at £5 per person. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Lord Mayor's charity.
