The King's Gallery at Buckingham Palace is a permanent space dedicated to changing exhibitions of items from the Royal Collection, the wide-ranging collection of art and treasures held in trust by The King for the Nation. Constructed forty years ago on the west front of Buckingham Palace out of the bomb-damaged ruins of the former private chapel, the Gallery was reopened on 21 May 2002 and is now open to the public on a daily basis.

Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography - 17th May 2024 to 6th October 2024

For many years, portraiture has played a significant role in the public’s perception of the Royal Family. This exhibition showcases the evolution of royal portrait photography from the 1920s to the present day.

Discover over 150 portraits, prints, and documents from the Royal Collection and Royal Archives. Explore some of the close relationships between the Royals and their photographers as you marvel at never-seen-before handwritten letters shared between members of the Royal Family and their photographers.

This exhibition is taking place at The King’s Gallery, formerly known as The Queen’s Gallery.

You must ensure that you have a printed copy of your ticket's for entry. The King's Gallery operates a timed-ticket system, with admission every 15 minutes throughout the day. You do not need to book a specific time. You will be admitted in the next available time slot. Over busy periods and bank holidays there may be a longer wait than usual to gain admission A typical visit lasts between 1 and 1½ hours. Please arrive 15 mins before your schedule time.
