This year’s socially distanced Oliver Awards were hosted by Jason Manford, and honoured Ian McKellen with his seventh Olivier Award for his 80th Birthday tour, as well as lyricist Don Black, who received his Special Award from Lord Lloyd Webber (whose latest show Cinderella is affected by the pandemic but is sure to be a big hit when it finally opens!)

Dear Evan Hansen won the Mastercard Best New Musical Award and unsurprisingly is one of the shows that everybody wants to see reopen soon. Best Actress went to Sharon D. Clarke for her performance in the Young Vic’s Death Of A Salesman, while Best Actor went to Andrew Scott for Present Laughter at The Old Vic. The Jamie Lloyd Company won Cunard Best Revival for its production of Cyrano De Bergerac.

Miriam-Teak Lee won Best Actress in a Musical for & Juliet, and Sam Tutty took home the award for Best Actor in a Musical for Dear Evan Hansen. Meanwhile, Matthew Bourne won Best Theatre Choreographer alongside Stephen Mear for Mary Poppins, crowning him the individual with the most Olivier Awards, having won nine in total.
