Why Comedy About a Bank Robbery Steals the Show

It's not often that a comedy steals the limelight in the West End, but Comedy About a Bank Robbery has done just that. Despite lining up against the dramatic deity that is Miss Saigon and the musical magic of Wicked, Comedy About a Bank Robbery has had audiences rolling in the aisles since 2016. Presented to you by The Mischief Theatre Company you'll follow the escapades of three hapless criminals trying to steal a rare diamond, the show is more than a subtle nod to screwball cop shows. As a reference point, think Naked Gun, according to The Telegraph's Dominic Cavendish. However, Comedy About a Bank Robbery isn't simply a puerile attempt at slapstick humour.

And the Reviews are Just as Criminal

"Is this a show that says smart things about the banking crisis? Not a jot. Does it deliver swag-loads of pleasure and thoroughly deserve to make a mint? Absolutely." -The Daily Telegraph

"If the theory is true that comic entertainment flourishes in unhappy and uncertain times, then this lung-bustingly funny play is just what the therapist ordered". -The Guardian

"The Comedy About a Bank Robbery' must rate as the best new comedy to open straight onto the West End in decades. In a year that has seen so many comedy greats snuff it, it's heartening to see a new generation prove themselves so definitively up to the challenge"- Time Out London

What people are saying about The Comedy About A Bank Robbery

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A confused mess. After seeing ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’, I was really looking forward to this, thinking it would be along similar lines. It starts well with a funny scene, then random songs start getting dropped in which add absolutely nothing to the story or the overall production. There’s a couple of further funny scenes throughout but it’s spoiled by more random songs (weak), a skit about a guy with multiple personalities and some nonsense about moustaches. The interval was almost 30mins which made me think this show had way too much filler and was simply trying to hit that magic 2.5hr West End duration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Riddiulously funny! I'd already been to see The Play that Went Wrong and loved it. I was hoping for somehting similar and I wasn't disappointed. I cried with laughter as the whole thing is so ludicrous. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the cast were brilliant. Not everyone's cup of tea though as one of the fiends I went with left at the interval.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full of belly laughs ! What a bizarre but hilarious show ! All the cast worked their socks off, many playing different parts and having to change all the sets too while singing along. It was not only full of visual jokes but great wordplay as well. Some very original visual jokes, particularly towards the end when they were sitting at a 'vertical wall'. Recommended.
