GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY CONOR MCPHERSON MUSIC AND LYRICS BY BOB DYLAN After rapturous critical acclaim and a sell-out season at THE OLD VIC, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY now transfers to the West End for a strictly limited season. Award-winning playwright Conor McPherson beautifully weaves the iconic songbook of Bob Dylan into this powerful new show full of hope, heartbreak and soul. Don't miss the unique opportunity to experience a 'magnificent' (Standard), 'astonishing' (Guardian) and 'piercingly beautiful' (Independent) production brought vividly to life by an exceptional company of actors and musicians. Duluth, Minnesota. 1934. A community living on a knife-edge huddle together in the local guesthouse. The owner, Nick, owes more money than he can ever repay, his wife Elizabeth is losing her mind and their daughter Marianne is carrying a child no-one will account for. When a preacher selling bibles and a boxer looking for a comeback show up in the middle of the night, things start to spiral beyond the point of no return... ★★★★★ ????? 'Not very often, a piece of theatre comes along that radiates an ineffable magic. Conor McPherson's musical play, is one such show. The rare alchemy with which McPherson fuses a dustbowl drama with the keening mysticism of Dylan's back catalogue makes it almost glow' Daily Telegraph, Claire Alfree ★★★★★ 'Conor McPherson weaves magic with Bob Dylan's songs' - The Observer ★★★★★ ????? 'A bona fide gem' 'Astonishing performances' Mark Shenton, Londontheatre ★★★★ '???? ?Beguiling performances in a well-deserved West End transfer? Evening Standard, Henry Hitchings ★★★★★ 'A tribute and a triumph' - Sunday Express ★★★★★ 'Astonishing' - The Guardian ★★★★ 'Sublime' - The Metro Original London cast production photography, by Manuel Harlan.

A £1.25 restoration levy (collected on behalf of the theatre) appears as part of the ticket cost.

What people are saying about Girl from the North Country

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best piece of theatre I have seen in a long time! I went to see this at the Old Vic as a lifelong Bob Dylan fan. I returned there for two more performances because the play is such a moving experience and the reworking of the songs is just exquisite. As a member of the “No one sings Dylan like Dylan” mentality I have been obliged to rethink! Have seen the play at the Noël Coward theatre once and will be returning for two more performances. Just can’t get enough of it! Congratulations to everyone who has been involved in this production and I sincerely hope that Mr Dylan has been to see for himself!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This show has overshadowed many others I have now seen the show 6 times.... I have bought tickets as presents for friends and some of them have been back again.... we have taken our 7 year old daughter twice (it was when she was singing along to the soundtrack and explains to us what the songs were about we realised we should take her..... She loved it so much, we took her again)... we are going again before the show finishes in March. The music stays with you as do the images of the characters. I close my eyes and see each episode. A huge thank you to everybody!!!!!
