Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great music, flawed gig. I hate being negative, but there were some things that made this far from a 5 star gig. The positives first; AWVFTS and their musicians performed beautifully and when everything was working it was a truly engrossing experience. St Philip's Church is a great venue and one of the standout buildings in the old central Salford area; it's fantastic to see it being used for events like this. The merch stall had some nice merch. The problems started with the long queue, caused by staff having to check names off a paper list by smartphone torchlight. This meant we missed most of the support act despite arriving in good time, though amplification of his set was unusually quiet anyway. The bar started running out of stock immediately and what was there was warm; there were no fridges. In what I assume was an attempt to keep staffing low and audience numbers high there were no seats and the balcony, which would have required ushers, was closed. Wow, the toilets. You can count them on one hand. The show itself was clearly a difficult one for the band as they experienced digital clipping and sync problems throughout the performance. But these things happen. It would have been nice to see their faces a little more as virtually the whole event was backlit, ultimately leaving the impression that we'd seen little but shadows. In fact, with its unnecessary strobing effects the whole light show was just a bit distracting. Ultimately, the biggest mistake was the lack of seating. This was essentially a small classical concert with electronics, but the combination of having to stand and the glitchy audio just made it so difficult to lose yourself in the experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Liverpool salutes AWVFTS I went to this concert with my partner, amazing venue. I had experienced their music live on a number of occasions, they didn’t disappoint. I would recommend listening to them as their music is totally uplifting a combination of electronics and live orchestration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A limbed defeat for the achey Just to be clear - The performance and music was absolutely outstanding and I would highly recommend AWVFTS. However, to truly enjoy the show and to be fully immersed int he experience this gig definitely should of and needed to be seated. I and most the people in there spent the gig uncomfortably with aching feet, legs and backs. Nobody wants to see classical style music stood up and it was a huge mistake. Also the toilet situation was shocking. Sort it out st phillps because the venue is beautiful but I'm reluctant to return

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect venue to see A Winged Victory For The Sullen Seeing A Winged Victory For The Sullen live is always a quasi-religious experience, so to see them in an old church was especially fitting. This was a fantastic show, and anyone who likes their recorded output should definitely see them live.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My mind went dancing How many gigs do you go to where you know you’re pretty unlikely to dance....? When you leave a Winged Victory event you may well consider that not only did you spend the evening dancing your socks off, but that you have also miraculously transformed into the world’s greatest ballet dancer. Their music..... no, their performance..... no, their acoustic collaboration is so mesmerising, all- encompassing and awe-inspiring that I feel mere words can not really do justice to what I experienced last night. Thank you to an extremely talented group of musicians. There is little more I can say.
